Our Boat
Brier Patch is a 57 foot (on deck) 60 foot overall sailboat. The boat was built at Bowman Yachts at the John King Shipyard on King Street, Emsworth, Hampshire England in 1982. It is a custom built ketch (two masts ) and was designed by Holeman and Pye Naval Architects who were noted for designing fast, strong, functional, sailing boats. Such as Swans, Baltic and other performance sailing craft. The sister ship to Brier Patch, Cloud Nine, in 2007 was the first American owned sailboat to sail the Northwest Passage in less than a year. ( these are tough fast boats)

In 1987 or 1988 she was sailed up to Nova Scotia , Newfoundland area and down to Maine, where she then had a major refit in the Hinkley shipyard in 1989 Owners changed and the name changed to “Treysta” From there she went to the Caribbean for a year. From the Caribbean, to the Panama Canal, to the Bay area of San Francisco, Ca. Again the owners changed, and the boat was called “Farthing” ( a British Coin. ) San Francisco to Los Angles, Ca. to San Diego, Ca. Again owners change, and the name was changed to “Brier Patch”….the reason for this name is it’s a happy place, and a safe haven
